The complexity of journal articles can be overwhelming. Students often become lost or confused while reading them, and waste significant amounts of time trying to understand their content. However, journal articles represent incredibly valuable learning resources as they are examples of completed research projects. Learning to read journal articles more systematically is the key to unlocking and harnessing the insights hidden inside.

In this webinar with Dr Ben Ellway from Academic Tookit, you’ll be introduced to a method which will help you to see and read journal articles in a new light. This will not only enable you to read and understand journal articles more easily, but simultaneously build a research model – a single page visual summary of the key decisions and aspects of a project. You can then use the research models to help you understand how research is commonly designed and conducted in your discipline and topic area, and subsequently use this to inform and build your own project.

I am an Assistant Professor at the University of Canberra. I completed my PhD at the University of Cambridge. I have taught research classes at the doctoral and masters level, and I regularly conduct research seminars and workshops. My experience has taught me that research is complex and can be incredibly challenging, often resulting in a long, uncertain, and frustrating process. Through Academic Toolkit I aim to make the process of planning, designing, writing, and publishing research both easier and more enjoyable.
